The Northern Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center enjoys a unique relationship with its academic partners and the Northern Plains tribal communities. The Center is committed to improving public health capacity in the region by fostering linkages between these communities and area academic institutions. This relationship is facilitated by the Academic Liaison who is on staff at the Northern Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center. In collaboration with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the position facilitates culturally appropriate research and health promotion activities in tribal communities by:

• Supporting tribally-initiated activities and providing linkages to academic institutions for technical assistance;
• Providing technical assistance to support university research projects in tribal communities; and,
• Promoting and providing education in research ethics to tribes and researchers.
