Traditional Tobacco Use

The NPTPP acknowledges the traditional and sacred role tobacco plays among many First Nations People. In Fact, much of the tobacco used by First Nations People prior to the use of commercial tobacco consisted of a blend of natural plants such as cansasa "red willow," mullein, bearberry.

Tobacco has been used by Native people for many purposes such as prayer, offerings, gift giving, cleansing, and medicine.
